The iPhone Duo screen replacement cost at Apple is $999 for the inner display and $379 for the outer display without coverage, according to Apple’s US repair price page. With an AppleCare plan, the same two repairs are $99 and $29.
Apple sets the final fee after it inspects the phone, and tax is extra.
There’s one exception. If your inner screen cracked along the hinge without a drop, Apple has said it replaces the phone, so the iPhone Duo screen replacement cost for that fault should be nothing to you.
On a service call, I pulled the manufacturer’s tech sheet before I quoted a part. For your Duo, Apple’s price list is that sheet, and it has more lines than the $999 headline.
iPhone Duo screen replacement cost at Apple, line by line
Apple’s repair price page lists eight iPhone Duo repairs without coverage and seven with an AppleCare plan. Find your situation in the left column. What you pay depends on which line the technician puts the damage on.
| Your situation | Apple’s line | No coverage | With AppleCare |
|---|---|---|---|
| You dropped it and the inner folding screen broke | Inner display damage | $999 | $99 |
| The outside screen cracked; the inner one works | Outer display damage | $379 | $29 |
| Outer screen and back both cracked | Outer display and back glass damage | $509 | Not listed |
| Scratches on the inner screen’s surface, picture fine | Cover layer damage | $49 | $19 |
| Only the back cracked | Back glass damage | $199 | $29 |
| Damage that doesn’t fit one line above | Other damage | $1,499 | $99 (other accidental damage) |

Watch the bottom row. Apple doesn’t define “other damage” on the page, and that line is $1,499. Apple inspects your phone to set the final fee, so ask which line your quote sits on.
You’ll pay tax on top, and a shipping fee may apply if Apple mails your phone.
Apple’s AppleCare list also has no line for the combined outer display and back glass job, as iFixit pointed out, so ask how that one would be charged if you have a plan.
The cover layer row is the cheap one.
Apple’s cover layer is a replaceable film over the inner screen, and iFixit confirmed it comes off without harming the panel. If the picture is perfect and you only see marks, ask about cover layer damage before you agree to $999.
Is the hinge crack free to fix?
The iPhone Duo hinge crack should cost nothing. Apple told CNBC it’s aware of an issue with the inner display on “a small number of iPhone Duo units” and that owners should contact AppleCare for a replacement. 9to5Mac reports you don’t need AppleCare+ for it.
The catch is classification. If the crack gets logged as inner display damage, you’re back to $999, or $99 with a plan. How to tell it apart, and what to photograph first, is in the iPhone Duo screen crack guide.

Is AppleCare+ worth it on an iPhone Duo?
AppleCare+ is worth it on an iPhone Duo if you’d struggle to pay $999 for an inner screen. Apple’s store lists AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss for the Duo at $19.99 a month or $199.99 a year, with unlimited accident repairs, each one charged at the fees in the table.
The window is short.
Apple’s AppleCare page says you can add a plan through the Settings app for 60 days after a new Apple purchase.
After that, AppleCare One can still take devices you already own, but only in good condition, and Apple may run a diagnostic or inspect it first. So don’t plan on buying cover after the crack.
What does a year of the plan buy you? Using Apple’s list prices before tax, and ignoring the theft and loss cover, a year of the annual plan plus one inner-screen accident costs you $298.99. With no plan, that same accident costs $999.

Now the other side. Pay the annual plan for five years without a claim and you’ve spent $999.95, roughly one uncovered inner screen. The monthly plan runs $239.88 a year, so you get there sooner.
Apple also sells AppleCare One at $19.99 a month for up to three products. If you already pay to cover other Apple devices, that changes the sum. One owner put it this way:
“The fact that 3 devices can be covered for $19.99 does make it hard not to get, especially for a gen 1 foldable.”

Not everyone in that thread agreed. Another reply boiled the whole argument down to one line:
“if you’re clumsy, it’s a great deal. If you’re not, it’s not.”

So decide by the bill you can absorb. If a surprise $999 would hurt, buy the plan inside the 60 days. If it wouldn’t, keep the $199.99 a year. The hinge fault doesn’t need the plan anyway.
Can a third-party shop replace the screen for less?
A third-party shop can’t reliably replace an iPhone Duo inner screen for less yet. iFixit, which scored the Duo a provisional 5 out of 10 for repairability, said it was still waiting on replacement parts it expects through Apple’s self-service program.
iFixit called the Duo the most repairable foldable it has taken apart, then added that this is “definitely not an endorsement of repairing the Duo.” Swapping the inner screen means new adhesive and the special fixtures Apple’s manual calls for.
iFixit put a similar repair on Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold at 3 to 5 hours for a typical DIYer and expects the Duo to go faster. Even once you can buy the part, iFixit warned it won’t be cheap.
Apple Authorized Service Providers are the in-between option. Apple says they set their own fees for out-of-warranty work and give you their own estimate. If you have an AppleCare plan, you pay the same fee there as at an Apple Store.
One warning if your screen cracked along the hinge. Apple’s limited warranty excludes damage caused by service from anyone who isn’t Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. Open the phone elsewhere first and you can lose your free replacement.
How does $999 compare with other foldables?
Apple’s $999 inner screen is more than twice Samsung’s price for a Galaxy Z Fold 8. Livemint, citing Samsung’s US repair pricing page, put the Fold 8 inner screen at $419.
iFixit’s comparison made the same point another way: the Duo’s inner display repair costs more than a brand-new iPhone 17. If you paid the $1,999 starting price CNBC lists, one inner screen is about half of what you spent.
Until Duo parts reach Apple’s self-service program and independent shops, Apple’s list is the only confirmed set of prices.
